Personal Assistants and Sickness

If your personal assistant cannot work due to sickness, you should ensure you keep a record of the dates and times they are off to be able to complete their timesheet. When completing their timesheet, the hours they would normally work should be recorded as 'sickness'. These details should be passed to your payroll agent who will be able to calculate any Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) that is due to your Personal Assistant.

You will need to consider what you will do if your Personal Assistant is ill. Possible ways to cope if your Personal Assistant cannot work through illness could include:

  • Using another Personal Assistant
  • Using an agency to meet your needs
  • Asking a family member or friend
